Halloween Shakspeare Style

Thrice the brinded cat hath mew’d.
Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin’d.
Harpier cries:—’tis time! ’tis time!
 Round about the caldron go;
In the poison’d entrails throw.—
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one;
Swelter’d venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i’ the charmed pot!
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg, and owlet’s wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
 Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
Witches’ mummy; maw and gulf
Of the ravin’d salt-sea shark;
Root of hemlock digg’d i the dark;
Liver of blaspheming Jew;
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Sliver’d in the moon’s eclipse;
Nose of Turk, and Tartar’s lips;
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver’d by a drab,—
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger’s chaudron,
For the ingrediants of our caldron.
 Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon’s blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

And to end with something not so creepy....

Happy Halloween!!!

More Halloween Fun!

I can't help it. I love Halloween.

So today I celebrated by making blobby monster eyeball cupcakes (oh yes, dear co-workers, these are for you!)

I made the eyeballs myself with gumballs and food markers. I don't know if it's the picture or my computer- but they are actually green.

And I watched

which seems more boring now than it was when I was a kid. I fast forwarded through the 20 minute Flying Ace part. Snoooore.

And then I had the hankering to watch this one.

If you've never seen it- it's worth it. I loved this when I was a kid!

It's not really 97 minutes. The person who loaded the video put a few of them together, and then left about 45 minutes of dead air at the end- just watch the first one. The next one is a Christmas special- and it's too early for that kind of stuff!

My six year old cousin was laughing her head off- so kids like it (other than the ones like me that are just overgrown five year olds)

Speaking of laughing- I finished off the evening by watching Clue the Movie.

Have you ever seen it? It's so stupid that it's funny. And it really makes me want to play the game!

Halloweeny Dinner!

...or "A Good Way to Make a Kid Stop Screaming"

I'm posting again today because yesterday's post was so depressing, I don't want it to be what I see every time I blog stalk myself.

Having a day off and spending far too much time on Pinterest made me want to do something fun with food. My little 6 year old cousin came home from school in a baaaaaaaaaaaad temper so in order to help appease her and (quite frankly) stop the bawling- I decided we needed to make hot dog mummies and witches hat cookies!

She helped me every step!

The witch's hats are super easy. Fudge Striped cookies and kisses. I just melted a couple extra kisses to use as glue. If I had frosting around I would have put little bands and bows around them, but oh well.

The Mummies are just hot dogs rolled in crescent roll dough. They aren't exactly Pinterest perfect, but I didn't have anything for the eyes ("NO MUSTARD!!!!! EEEEEWWWW" [although I love mustard, remember this project was to keep the kid from having a fit])

The result was a fun dinner

and a happy kid.

Mission accomplished.

another "I" filled post

Sometimes I feel like writing. But I don't have anything to say. That's a lie. I always have something to say. I just don't feel like I have anything interesting to say.

So today I went to Google and found a page that gives blog prompts, an idea to write about.

Today's blog prompt

Do you feel you're too old to pursue your dreams?

I don't feel OLD per se, but do I think that becoming a Disney performer is a bit out of reach? yeah. I never took singing lessons or dance lessons, acting lessons or even mime. I've got nothing. But other than all of that fun stuff, I don't know what the dream is.

I work at a job where- let's face it- is no dream job. It's nice to have a job. I'm not complaining at all about that. I went for long enough without one to be stupid enough to complain about having one. But really? Is E.R. registrar the dream? Short answer. No.

I want to travel and see the world. That's what I want to do. That's the dream. It's not a practical dream. Especially coming from the family I come from. (I know you're reading this. Hi.)

I am a world traveler stuck in a stay at home family. Every time I get the itch to adventure, I'm reminded about how many bills and responsibilities I have and allllllll the reasons why it's just not a good idea. Sometimes, the best trips have been when I don't tell anyone I'm going- until I'm there. Of course, I hear about it afterward (can anyone say Hawaii?).   I ache to go back to England. I want so badly to go to Italy, Spain, Germany, France (pick a European country), Australia, China, Japan.... heck, I'll even settle for local stuff like, New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, Philadelphia... the list is almost endless.

No, I don't feel too old to do these things- but I can't imagine how ever in my lifetime I'll be able to afford to do them- without the crippling guilt that will inevitably accompany. I just have to content myself with being mediocre in a ho-hum job. yaaaaaaaaay.

Some of this and that

Melissa and Kimberly- this is for you- just so it's not a whoooole week in between posts. :)

I don't really have much to say. So I'll just spew out a few thoughts that have hit me over the last few days.

I love having friends. I even dress up like an idiot for them.

(you'll have to wait till Cami posts about the party. It's her right as hostess) Thanks again Mom for making the dress!

I *finally* started watching Sherlock. Daaaaaaaaaang I love that show! Why do Americans even try? All we have going for us is The Big Bang Theory and well... nope... that's about it.

Although- I will give and awesome shout out to Once Upon a Time. I don't care who you are. I love Mr Gold and there is nothing you can do about it. I've loved him since day one!

While we're on the subject of TV. I am sad that I've finally caught up with the masses as far as Doctor Who goes. Now I have to wait like everyone else for the next episode to air. On Christmas! (which I won't be able to watch because I have to work. ugh.)

I went to Pier One again today. I really shouldn't do that. I just want to cry when I walk around in there. I love it all so much and it bums me out that I can't buy anything. (Why? Because I don't have anywhere to put it and it's no fun buying things and storing them at your mom's house for "someday")

I spoke in church yesterday. I normally love speaking in church (which is why I'm rarely asked) and I found it interesting that after I spoke, more people talked to me than they have in the last year combined. Hmmm...

The talk went well, by the way. It was supposed to be about "Charity Never Faileth" but I did a spin on it to make it different than any other charity talk you've ever heard. I got lots of compliments and people asking about references i used because they didn't catch them in their notes. People took notes of MY talk? cool.

Tomorrow starts my long work week. 8 out of 10 days and nothing to look forward to until the end of all that.

I am so in love with glitter I'm pretty sure it's not healthy. Maybe it's a good thing I don't have my own place- it would look like a disco with all the glittery decorations I have my eye on.

I need to stop buying movies.

Ok, that's a lie. I love buying movies. I don't get to watch them as often as I used to- but I still like having them around. Thank heaven for the Walmart $5 bin. (No, that's not actually my collection. half of my stuff is still in Idaho.)

My cousin and her friend tried to make a cake yesterday. It was a hilarious you-had-to-be-there fiasco, but I'll just say that instead of powdered sugar for her frosting, she used regular sugar. And when the cake was done baking she didn't know what to do with it, so she turned the oven off and left it in the oven. in the pan.
Oh how I wish I'd taken a picture of it. You'll just have to use your imagination

Thank heaven I was there to rescue her, because you know, I'm such a pro.

(cough cough gag... I almost died choking on that lie)

Witchfest 2012

This year my sisters came down for Witch's Night Out at Gardner Village. It was really good to have them here. I rather enjoy having people to go out and do stuff with! We shopped till we ran out of money- and then dressed up and went to the shopping party (Witchfest).

Melanie wore her purple apron that said "Bite Me" and said she was a kitchn witch.

Kim was a fancy witch with her black and silver with touches of red.

(Those are my Christmas socks- but no one needs to know. It will be our little secret)

 Me? Well, I wore my new black dress that was made for an upcoming event- and then just remnants of last year's costume. (My picture turned out like crap so I deleted it. It's my camera so I can do shocking things like that)

We had lots to look at and as Kim and Mel have never been there before at Halloween they had a lot to take in. Kim got a little camera happy and took most of these pictures. But they're cute so I will share.

A lot of these are cutesy store displays. That is what Kim does for her job so she loooooves this kind of stuff. Plus they both just like decorations!

Noanie and the hula hooping witch!

I was trying to get a good picture where you could see the cat chasing the rat under the witch's skirts so there were several pictures taken.

After a while Kim was pretty annoyed.

She could be my twin!

A witches backside! actually- several witchy backsides! This is a group up on the platform during the rockin part of the evening. DJ and all!

I think this is one of the character hosts who actually works the event. I don't remember her name but she was very nice.

cute displays all over the village!

This is some random group of witches that were all dressed the same- but in different colors. Why they felt the need to drag that poor kid into the photo with them is beyond me. He obviously doesn't want to be there.

Something brewing.

It's just fun to go and feel the electricity of the evening. We didn't buy anything- it's just fun to go.

This is another one of the characters that works the event.

It was a wicked good time!

Sure-fire ways to scare the Hell out of me this Halloween

Put one of these on my front lawn. (I *love* cemeteries- but honestly I'm not sure how I'll react next time I go and see one of these.)

Dress your five year old like this and have him walk up to me and ask, "Are you my mummy?"

Show up wearing this mask (which is creepy enough by itself)

and then have your head do a 180 on your neck to reveal this face.

Dress up like a mannequin in a store front then break through the glass and start robotically chasing me (not gonna lie- even before I saw this, store dummies always freaked me out a little)

 Dress a little girl up like this and have her giggle uncontrollably and say, "Come play with us!"

Normally the Ood don't scare me. They're actually lovely creatures.  But the rabid ones are a bit freaky.

If you dress like this and walk around looking like a boneless sack- I will scream and run away.

Wear this and just stand in the doorway. Not moving. Not making a sound. I would faint. Seriously. And then I would forget.

I'm not suggesting that you should try any of these on me. Because honestly, you might lose a limb if I catch up with you- but if you're brave enough to try, I've given you some good ideas.

When I was Born

Click play on the song and continue reading the rest of the blog while it plays appropriate background music.

This song was not chosen at random. This actually was the number one song the week I was born. I think an epic song marks and epic arrival of one humble girl to the world

I was born on a Monday. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. Most people don't like Mondays. I don't mind them right now because I have Mondays off.

The year I was born
  • Jimmy Carter was president
  • the household income was $13,500
  • Montreal creamed Boston for the Stanley Cup
  • If people weren't glued in front of the TV watching Roots, they were at the theater watching Star Wars, Saturday Night Fever or Close Encounters of the Third Kind
  • People mourned the loss of Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, Groucho Marx and Charlie Chaplin
The week I was born seems to be fairly uneventful (other than my birth, obviously) as far as the world is concerned. Someone I've never heard of got arrested, The Yankees won the pennant (and went on to win the World Series), and other stuff happened in other sports that no one really cares about.

The day I was born was pretty uneventful worldwide. I guess the world could only take so much on one day- and since I was making my entrance, it decided to take a break.

I share a birthday with Oliver Cowdry, Chubby Checker, Greg Proops, Clive Owen, Gwen Stefani, and several composers and authors that I've never heard of (but it still gives one hope).
